We are sending
you this long overdue letter commending Amy Greenball.
We appreciate
Amy's unwavering compassion and concern when caring for our mother,
Jane Visco. No detail of resident care is too small or burdensome
for Amy. (Amy has even suggested ways of blow drying our mother's
hair to make it look better!) Because we see how our mother responds
to Amy, as well as Amy's interactions with other residents, we
believe that Amy's compassion and concern are genuine — always
present whether observed or not.
Amy's compassion
and concern are particularly noticeable during the weekly shower
rituals that have become increasingly unpleasant for our mother.
We believe that Amy's warm, caring manner, particularly during
shower time, directly contributes to minimizing or completely eliminating
our mother's vocal reactions to being showered and shampooed.
We appreciate
and are comforted by the way Amy exercises good judgment. One example
is how Amy takes the opportunity 'to prepare our mother for bed
before we arrive. We find this particularly helpful on those nights
either when we might not have had the chance to call to request
this to be done or (unbeknownst to Amy) we just lacked the energy
to prepare our mother for bed.
We appreciate
Amy's ability to responsibly prioritize care-giving in a way that
is difficult to "second guess." While Amy's sense of
priority may mean changing another resident before responding to
our mother's need-of-the-moment, we believe that Amy would give
our mother the same priority under the same circumstances.
We appreciate
Amy's sense of accountability that is demonstrated by her willingness
to explain to us any deviation from our mother's care routine.
Anne and
Diana Visco
