For the past seven years my grandmother, Emma Pitzer, was a resident
at [your facility]. After many years of ill health, she went to heaven
on the 14th of this month. My purpose in writing this letter is to
bring two outstanding employees to your attention. Gina Hayes and
Catherine Montanez were truly angels of mercy and care.
Gina was
always up in spirit and I looked forward to seeing her every time
I visited, which was often. My grandmother spoke highly
of her and was assured that she would not want when Gina was there.
Gina was transferred from my grandmother’s floor and we all
missed her but will not forget what a joy she was.
Cathy was
a true favorite of my grandmother’s and a gift to
us all. She spoke to my grandmother in such a way that all her imagined
fears were calmed. she lovingly explained and reassured. She attended
to her every comfort and always knew what she needed, even when communication
was poor. She allowed my grandmother to keep her dignity, as her
care was discreet and professional. In the end months, my grandmother
was confused and frightened. Cathy handled her in such a tender,
loving way. This was such an assurance to me, knowing that I had
to leave her in the hands and at the mercy of her caretakers. Cathy
treated her as family and always would help me in any way she could
to make my grandmother’s journey easier. I also had the chance
to observe Cathy with other residents. It was then that I realized
she was truly gifted and a blessing to all, as she did her job with
love and genuine concern for everyone without complaint.
You are
fortunate to have two employees that do not just do their jobs
but embrace their clients with their hearts. They are continually
putting others first, going above and beyond. I am grateful they
were brought into my grandmother’s life at such a crucial time.
I thank God for their compassion. I will miss seeing them.
