During my formative years, my mother was very ill and my grandparents
assisted in raising me. I was an only child and the oldest of grandchildren.
My grandparents were my best friends and my confidants. As they shared
their life stories with me, I grew and developed into the woman I have
become. During the course of my life and as I continue to develop,
the life lessons my grandparents shared with me have become my epiphany.
I realized that even though we are of different generations, we have
shared similar experiences. When I became an adult and I chose to go
into the nursing profession, I knew from the life lessons they have
shared, that I wanted to work with the senior population. My nursing
goals are to not just treat the disease process but to care for the
individual as a whole.
This past January as my grandmother became terminally ill, I was able
to assist my family and my grandmother through this transition. From
the moment of birth through all of our eventual deaths, we go through
various transitions. I have realized that my profession is one of assisting
our residents, patients, and families through their transitions.
I came to Deer Meadows in February 2002 as an RN Charge Nurse. My
previous experience as a Charge Nurse, Wound Care Nurse, Supervisor,
Unit Manager, Program Manager, RNAC/Case Manager, Assistant Director
of Nurses, and Director of Nurses began following my completion of
my education in May 1996. I have worked at other long-term care facilities
and am very lucky to have found Deer Meadows during my career path.
My philosophical belief in working in long-term care is one of a holistic
approach for the resident, family, as well as the employees of Deer
Meadows with respect, compassion, integrity, and creatively to obtain
and maintain quality overall.

Hi
my name Barbara Frongello,
I am employed at
DMRC as the Assistant Director of Community Recreation at DMRC.
I was born
and raised in Philadelphia, was married for 3½ years,
and had my first child before moving to California at age 24.
After I had my second
child in California, I then pursued interest in the healthcare
industry.
I had taken a course
as a CNA at the Azusa Adult Education Center in Azusa, CA. during
this course all the students needed to learn hands-on skills in a
healthcare facility, which was at Emmanuel Healthcare in Glendora,
CA. Working on my hand-on skills as a CNA the administrator at Emmanuel
Healthcare asked if I would join her team in the activity department.
While working at
this healthcare center I had attended a course at Citrus Community
College for activity leadership in I and II and received a certificate
upon my completion. In my work experience in nursing and activity/recreation
retirement communities, I had advanced from a CNA to an activity
aide up to Assistant and/or Director of Activities.
I
lived as a single parent in California for a few years before
I moved back to Philadelphia
in to help my twin sister in caring for our dying older
brother. It was the 9/11 incidents where lives were cut short;
I had
proceeded to see things differently and learned that each moment
is precious.
I wanted to be near my family and I realized there is no
place like home and my home is in Philadelphia. I currently
reside in the Northeast – Tacony
section of Philadelphia.
As
Director of the Environmental and Linen Services Departments, I have
a combined team of 35 employees. I have over 15 years experience
in the housekeeping and laundry fields and have served major hospitals
before joining the Deer Meadows management team in 2003.
My career prior
to environmental services was in law enforcement as I was a criminal
investigator/special agent for the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney
General. I served with the Justice Department until my retirement
in 1990 and decided to pursue a different career.
Throughout my entire
career nothing has been more rewarding than working in a healthcare/personal/independent
care environment.

Bill graduated from
Abington High School and holds an Associates Degree in Hotel Restaurant
Management from Montgomery County Community College and a Bachelor
of Science degree from Syracuse University in Food Systems Management.
Bill is married
with two daughters.
Mike
Johnson has been employed at Deer Meadows since 2000 as the Director
of Maintenance. Mike began his career in healthcare upon the completion
of his certification in Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
After serving another community, Mike came to Deer Meadows with the
experience and skill needed to ensure that this community, which
is about 250,000 square feet, is cool in the summer and warm in the
winter.
Mike,
also serves as the Safety Officer. His responsibilities as the Safety
Officer are inclusive of Fire and Emergency Disaster Planning and
education for employees and residents on their responses in the event
a disaster occurs. Mike works closely with the Human Resource Department
and Education Department in planning educational sessions regarding
safety for the employees and residents.
Mike was born and
raised in Langhorne, PA and attended school in the Neshaminy School
District. He enjoyed playing sports and cherished the fishing trips
with is father. Mike is happily married with two children and finds
