Deer
Meadows in bloom
The
folks at Deer Meadows, a continuing care retirement community on
Roosevelt Boulevard in the northeast, have found a colorful way
to open its Mother's Day festivities to all mothers - residents
and non-residents alike.
"We
have a flower festival timed to Mother's Day weekend," says
Liz Harbison, director of marketing and public relations. "It
has brought more families out because there's something they can
actually see and do while they're visiting. We open it up to the
community as well."
During
Deer Meadows' annual four-day Spring Flower Festival, the conference
center is transformed into a walk-through, landscaped enchanted
garden.
It's
a true community event. the setting is designed by Colleen Hart,
a professional graphic artist. Residents, high school students
and family volunteers plant and paint, and also pitch in at the
gift shop and refreshment stand.
The
200s Deer Meadows Annual Spring Flower Festival, a free event,
is Thursday through Wednesday, May 11-17.
